Originality

Originality is tough and it is easy to get lost in the difference between owing your own style to influences from another and outright plagiarism. Trying to explain this to my daughter about music is even tougher because every generation is going to have its heroes, even if they are only an inch tall and standing on the head of another generation before them.

Tonight we discussed why I don’t listen to much modern music, and especially pop music that comes out of the factory from a stable of “artists” created by same said system.  Call me an elitist indie bastard.  I don’t care.  What I do care about is getting an 8-year-old to understand that this:

Is just a 5th generation photo copy of a badly pasted together homage of these:

   PLUS THIS

Not exactly easy, but SO worthwhile.
