Always the bridesmaid

And for the third time in five quarters I am a Writers of the Future honorable mention.  I’m always pleased to see the results, it is nice to know I am competitive and close.  Now what I need to figure out is how to break into the semi-finalist category.  Any suggestions?  Anyone? Anyone? You there in the back with the checkered teeth! Vampire gopher erotica you say?

Even honorable mentions look great on query letters! It doesn’t matter if you got into the semi-finals if you reached the end goal of getting published, right?

Thanks for the comment. You’re correct. I’m thrilled to be honorable mention and I do include them in my queries and submissions for short stories. My frustration, if you could call it that, is that I need to improve the quality of my work to be worth being a semi-finalist. These kinds of things challenge me to do better, because that is how I think. That does not mean I do not treasure any positive feedback in a profession where the primary feedback is rejection.
